Listen. I simply just need these two to be in love. Or in bed. Or anything, really. I need them slowly falling in love and in denial over it. I need hatesex from back when they didn't like each other. I need them courting awkwardly. I love the loyalty they have for each other. I feel like the series shows Granby demonstrating his loyalty to Laurence a lot, but I would love if Laurence would put into a situation to demonstrate how far he would go for Granby.

The fact that we know that Granby is a skilled sketch artist absolutely fucking thrills me. Granby drawing Laurence? In bed, maybe? Or maybe from a distance, and Laurence finds out about it. I bet that Granby was treated differently growing up in the covert for being poor, and not being a gentleman--does Laurence find out about it? How does he react?

Canon divergence or full AU would also be incredible. If you've read Golden Age, maybe a continuation of the main story? How does Granby react when Laurence the sea captain shows up in Dover with a prime heavyweight, a flock of lightweight harriers, and five ships full of gold? Oh my god, maybe a role reversal where Laurence is the talented aviator lieutenant and Granby is the random coal merchant/Army captain who somehow got his hands on a fire-breather.

Laurence/Hammond

I might be the only person alive who ships it, but hey, it's worth a shot? Listen, Hammond is thirsty af for Laurence and I will die on this hill, and yes, I want all of it. I want to see Laurence unbend and come to understand Hammond's worldview, which is so opposite his own, I want Hammond to rise up to Laurence's moral standard, I want them to meet in the middle a little.

I always found the scene in League of Dragons where Hammond is trying to warm Laurence's pistols for him really touching. Actually that entire duel is like catnip! I like that Laurence and Hammond have only a grudging friendship at the best of times, and open bitterness at worst, and how they are constantly side-eyeing each other over their different priorities in life, but when push comes to shove, Hammond will take Laurence's pistols and put his life in danger to defend him. Actually when you think about it, Hammond didn't need to go that hard for Laurence all the time. He got Laurence restored to the list with seniority--can you just imagine him just being extremely annoying at everyone in the Admiralty until someone finally gives in? Fic about Hammond harnessing his superpower of being incredibly irritating in order to help Laurence post-canon would be hilarious. Or maybe a serious take on the duel, and what happened after. That moment in the beginning of Crucible of Gold where Hammond sees Laurence with a beard for the first time is a peak "Oh No He's Hot" moment--I'd love to see an exploration of that. Maybe a canon divergence where they end up stranded together somehow and have to work together to survive? Gah, I would love anything about this extremely odd couple.

Wellington & Perscitia

Their interactions were some of the funniest parts of Victory of Eagles. I loved that they were equally brilliant but also equally snippy and irritable. I like to imagine they have a quiet appreciation for each other's intelligence, er, very deep down. I love the idea of being companions or friends, but a lifelong and dedicated frenemyship is honestly just as good.

I would love a slight canon divergence where Perscitia spent the war becoming one of Wellington's top advisors, with her keen eye and head for strategy. Maybe they even go up flying--strictly to scout the enemy lines, of course. What does Wellington think of Perscitia's cowardice? Is he baffled, contemptuous, pitying, surprised? Maybe they're butting heads all the time, but Perscitia's input always improves the line of battle. Maybe Perscitia ends up going with him to Portugal--that would be so interesting to see. I love Napoleonic war history.

Or--Wellington also became a MP after the war (as a Tory), and I just imagine them arguing all the time. Everyone else gets tired of it and they're both still going. "Please, shut up about the corn laws," everyone cries, but they have already moved on to about five different topics. No one is surprised when Perscitia becomes his companion so they can argue full-time.

William Laurence/Jeremy Rankin

Okay, can you imagine. Rankin was Laurence's ill-advised hookup and then terrible ex. He is not going to have hatesex with him. He has no continued feelings about the intense betrayal and disappointment he felt.

William Laurence/Lord Byron

I'm not even going to lie. I just want to see where you take this. You can include the fact that Lord Byron was a noted Napoleon fanboy if you want.

I would love to see any type of art for my two favorite dragons! I'm tagging Celeste separately in case you've read Golden Age - I loved the main novella and I think it's ripe full of amazing scenes to represent in art! I mean, pirate dragons!

My list of art likes is above, and believe me, they only represent a small sample of things I like about art! If you have been dying to try out a new or unusual style that you're not sure will land, this is your moment! Seize it! Prompts below are optional--I also like art that's a little abstract, or where the subject isn't doing anything in particular, so if that interests you, or if you want to draw something completely different, that's fine with me.

You know the genre in fantasy art that's basically, "a dragon looks at a landscape looking all majestic and shit"? Yeah, I lap that stuff up. I can't get enough. Temeraire in some field, looking off into the distance: yes. Iskierka in the Scottish Highlands, smoking like a cigar: yes.

I love visual references and jokes. I would be really into seeing dragons in the modern day, interacting with our modern world. I happen to be thinking about art at the moment because I'm prompting this, so dragons with paints and brushes? Dragons at the MOMA? (Temeraire vs Rothko? Does Iskierka have strong ideas on what kind of "art" should be burned down? :P) However, I'm not attached to any particular setting, whether it's in Napoleonic era, some other part of history, or an alternate universe.

I thought the end of League of Dragons, where Temeraire is letting Laurence's little nephews play on him, was so cute. I'd love to have a visual of that. I've also always loved how Novik describes the divine wind, how mythic and unearthly it is, how you can almost see it without seeing it. I'd love to see a way of capturing that in art.

I love how extra Iskierka is, always flaming off. You could show her in action, battling and roasting her enemies, or maybe show a gentler side of her, making campfires and toasting marshmallows for a new generation of cadets.

I'm so eager to be surprised by what you make for me! Use my prompts or don't as you choose. As a general note, unrequested characters or ships appearing in the background are perfectly okay with me. I like almost every character and I ship almost any pairing. PWPs and smut for any pairing requested would be fantastic too. I'm also generally forgiving with my DNWs - if you're in a situation where you're worrying that a sentence or two is accidentally gonna brush up against a DNW, you're likely fine! Laurence is a brave knight serving the realm, and Tharkay is a half-elf outcast; Laurence is a skilled battlemage, and Tharkay is a foreign witch, looked on with suspicion for using dark magic; Laurence is the Captain of the Palace Guard, and Tharkay is a royal bastard, born of an outlander concubine, legitimized on the king's deathbed, seeking his right to the throne. Other characters can be normal humans or magic-users or selkies or demons or anything else you like as you see fit. I'd like the dragons to still be dragons, or some other type of large magical creature.

Or if you really love the Napoleonic setting--and don't we all--maybe a missing scene from the books. How did Laurence react when Tharkay and Temeraire returned to him in Russia? Or a scene from the crossing of the Taklamakan, or from the Allegiance. Their post-series lives together are a potential goldmine as well! One thing that I always loved about Tharkay was his affinity for falconry, a beautiful and incredible sport with a rich history. Does Laurence go hunting with him? Or help him capture a new bird?

I love canon-divergent AUs! If you've read Golden Age, I wouldn't mind seeing the Laurence/Tharkay continuation of the main story. What if Laurence and Tharkay met earlier in the series? Tharkay is engaged in questionable operations on a privateer and Laurence takes the ship as a prize. Or Tharkay had started working for Napoleon and is engaged as a spy?

Granby/Tharkay:
I actually think they could be a really interesting pair. It seems to me that most of their interaction in the books is through Laurence, but what if they were made to step outside of that dynamic for a moment? Maybe Laurence is indisposed in some way and they have to work together somehow to help him. This would be an amazing casefic, actually, if there's some kind of mystery involved? Or if they have to work together directly in their capacities as spy and dragon captain. I can see them realizing that they have a spark, once they get to know each other better. I love the idea of the friction between Granby's honesty, bravery, and loyalty, and Tharkay's pride, elusiveness, and incisiveness. Are they both inverts, and meet realizing that they have a secret in common? Oh god, what if they slept together way back before the series, and now they have to keep it hidden from Laurence once they meet again? I think Granby and Tharkay both love courage, and they both have heaps of that, in different ways. I'd be really interested in something for this pairing!

Granby & Iskierka:
Me: Poor Granby, he ended up with the brattiest and most unmanageable dragon imaginable
ALSO me: Iskierka is an angel who has never done anything wrong in her life, ever

I would love to know more about Granby and his terrible child. I love how much they love each other, even if Iskierka shows it in...misguided ways. Iskierka's willfulness, immaturity, and selfishness are simultaneously infuriating and endearing to me. Honestly, I love Iskierka. I like her growth throughout the series. It's minimal, yes, but it's there, I swear! Maybe something about Iskierka growing up? Iskierka says something thoughtful and Granby just stares at her for like, four days. Or the other direction, an excerpt from their days of Channel piracy? I thought that moment in Crucible of Gold--where Iskierka is so pleased to have the sailors cheering for her and shows off for them while Granby yells--was so cute. I could be really into seeing more of that. Sailors love seeing Iskierka on the horizon because it means they get their prize for no work, naval captains hate her, Granby has to awkwardly smooth everything over.

I would love to know about her and Granby's adventures as Admiral and flag-dragon at Edinburgh. Or ooh, meeting Granby's family in Newcastle? His coal-miner brothers getting all nervous around her XD. Are there quiet things that Granby and Iskierka like to do together, like how Temeraire and Laurence like to read? I would love to know your take.

Laurence & Emily Roland:
I love the bond between Laurence and Emily. I want to know about them bonding, about Laurence giving Emily lessons in fencing and combat and, ugh, arithmetic, teenage Emily, angry at the world, defending Laurence with her fists when he's convicted of treason, Emily and Laurence fighting the world together, Laurence awkwardly giving Emily advice on boys because Jane's advice is always to drop him when he becomes troublesome, Emily writing letters when she's off and become her own captain, Emily making house calls in London and at Tharkay's estate, acknowledging each other as father and daughter--or never speaking of it and just knowing it in their hearts, Emily and Laurence, still fencing after all these years.

Laurence & Emily Roland/Demane:
Poor Laurence, trying to play chaperone for two teenagers in the Regency period. I imagine his mixture of concern, over-investment, and pride. I imagine Emily and Demane writing to each other between England and Gibraltar, and Laurence writing to both, trying to smooth over their teenage spats and make wise decisions. Epistolary fic could be so much fun for that!

OR! At Emily and Demane's wedding. Laurence in the front row (or walking her down the aisle...oh my god, my heart), just that proud and so, so happy. I love it, give me all of it.

I thought the end of League of Dragons, where Temeraire is letting Laurence's little nephews play on him, was so cute. I'd love to have a visual of that. I've also always loved how Novik describes the divine wind, how mythic and unearthly it is, how you can almost see it without seeing it. I'd love to see a way of capturing that in art.

I love how extra Iskierka is, always flaming off. You could show her in action, battling and roasting her enemies, or maybe show a gentler side of her, making campfires and toasting marshmallows for a new generation of cadets.
